Emergency Preparedness Seminar Strengthens Community Resilience in Jamaica

Spanish Town, Jamaica — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hosted an Emergency Preparedness Seminar at the Spanish Town Chapel in the Kingston Jamaica Stake, bringing together representatives from government agencies and service organizations to help families and communities become better prepare for natural disasters and other unexpected events.

The seminar provided practical instruction on hurricane and earthquake preparedness, fire safety, evacuation procedures, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and public health considerations. Participants received tools and recommendations designed to increase their ability to respond with confidence and make informed decisions during times of crisis.

The event featured participation from several key national and local organizations, including the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the Jamaica Red Cross, the Ministry of Health & Wellness, and the Jamaica Constabulary Force. Their collaboration provided participants with a broader understanding of risk management and the coordinated actions needed to protect communities.

As part of the program, attendees learned how to develop family emergency plans and assemble 72-hour supply kits, resources considered essential during the initial stages of an emergency. The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session that allowed participants to explore the topics discussed in greater depth.

Through initiatives such as this, the Church continues to promote self-reliance, community well-being, and safety by working alongside public and private organizations to strengthen resilience and foster a culture of preparedness.
