Entrepreneurship Programme Strengthens Self-Reliance in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with Youth Business Trinidad and Tobago (YBTT), successfully completed the first cohort of its Starting a Business programme, an initiative designed to promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic development.

The programme welcomed 23 aspiring entrepreneurs from the Church congregations of Sangre Grande, Arima, Curepe, Port of Spain, and Chaguanas, along with members of the wider community. Over several months, participants received practical training focused on developing sustainable, income-generating businesses that can support long-term personal and family stability.

Training included personal and business development, identifying individual strengths and resources, understanding customer needs, and learning responsible decision-making strategies. Participants also gained experience using business planning tools to refine their ideas, identify growth opportunities, and build more sustainable business models.

The participants demonstrated strong commitment throughout the programme, maintaining an 87 percent attendance rate and achieving a 95 percent completion rate, with 22 of the 23 participants successfully graduating. The programme concluded with a pitch and graduation event where participants showcased their business concepts and shared their plans for future growth.

Through this partnership with Youth Business Trinidad and Tobago, The Church of Jesus Christ continues to promote self-reliance and community development by providing individuals with skills, knowledge, and opportunities that help strengthen families, create economic opportunities, and contribute to the well-being of their communities.
