The Church of Jesus Christ Joins Religious Leaders to Celebrate Guyana’s Independence

Georgetown, Guyana — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints participated in a special ceremony held at the State House to commemorate Guyana’s Independence. The event, hosted by the President of the Republic, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, brought together representatives of various faith traditions in a celebration that highlighted the values of unity, respect, and commitment to the nation.

As part of the event, twenty religious leaders were invited to participate in a symbolic ceremony reflecting the country’s cultural and spiritual diversity. During the program, representatives of different faith communities joined the President in lighting a candle as a symbol of hope, peace, and service to society.

Among the participants was President Carl Van Gils, president of the Georgetown Guyana Mission of the Church, who was one of four Christian representatives invited to take part in this significant national observance.

The participation of the Church in gatherings such as this reflects its commitment to working alongside religious and community leaders to promote principles of faith, mutual respect, and service, strengthening individuals, families, and communities.
