The Church of Jesus Christ Launches an Initiative to Strengthen Student Health in Jamaica

Kingston, Jamaica — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with Newport Water Limited, the National Education Trust (NET), and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, has launched the Hydrate Caribbean Jamaica: Healthy Students, Healthy Futures project, a humanitarian initiative designed to improve student health and well-being by expanding access to safe drinking water.

The project was officially introduced during a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony at Clan Carthy High School. Over the next two years, eight secondary schools across Kingston and St. Andrew will receive high-capacity bottle-less hydration stations, reusable stainless-steel water bottles, and health education programs that promote healthy hydration habits and reduce the consumption of sugary beverages.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Vaughn Pinnock, president of the Kingston Jamaica Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, emphasized that the Church's humanitarian efforts are rooted in the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.

"We believe that we are the hands of Christ. Our charitable work is an expression of our discipleship. We serve because we love our fellow men and seek to follow the example of the Savior."

President Pinnock also reaffirmed that the Church provides humanitarian assistance without regard to religious affiliation, emphasizing that Christlike service is offered freely to bless communities and improve lives.

Representatives from Newport Water Limited, the National Education Trust, the Ministry of Education, and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica highlighted the initiative's long-term impact on student health, academic achievement, and environmental sustainability through the reduction of single-use plastic bottles.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, formalizing a partnership that will expand access to clean, chilled drinking water while encouraging healthier lifestyles for thousands of Jamaican students.

Representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, government agencies, partner organizations, school administrators, students, and members of the media attended the event, celebrating a collaborative effort to strengthen the health and future of Jamaica's rising generation.
