The Church of Jesus Christ Strengthens Education, Inclusion, and Disaster Preparedness in Trinidad and Tobago

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago — As part of its ongoing commitment to humanitarian service and community well-being, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held three official project handover ceremonies that will benefit thousands of people across Trinidad and Tobago. Developed in partnership with community organizations and government agencies, these initiatives strengthen education, promote inclusion for persons with disabilities, and enhance the nation's disaster preparedness and emergency response capacity.

These efforts reflect the Church's commitment to following the example of Jesus Christ through selfless service, working alongside local partners to address community needs and create lasting, meaningful impact.

Strengthening National Disaster Preparedness

During a ceremony held on July 22 at Tradezone in Aranguez, the Church presented the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government with a significant donation of emergency response equipment and supplies to strengthen the country's preparedness for natural disasters.

The donation included rescue boats, chainsaws, sandbags, portable generators, dewatering pumps, pressure washers, mattresses, cots, tarpaulins, and field cooking equipment for emergency shelters. These resources will enhance the capacity of municipal disaster management units to respond more effectively to floods, storms, and other emergencies.

The ceremony was attended by Minister Khadijah Ameen, ministry officials, and Church representatives, who emphasized the importance of continued collaboration in building stronger and more resilient communities throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

Expanding Educational Opportunities and Skills Development

On the same day, the Church also marked the official completion of a humanitarian project in partnership with Living Waters Community, designed to expand educational opportunities and vocational training for migrant families and members of the wider community.

The initiative provides funding for early childhood, primary, and secondary education for children, as well as vocational training programs for youth and adults. By investing in education and practical skills, the project helps individuals achieve greater self-reliance, employment opportunities, and improved quality of life.

During the ceremony at the Naparima Centre in San Fernando, both organizations reaffirmed their shared commitment to creating opportunities that strengthen families and support community development.

Supporting Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities

A third ceremony marked the official handover of a humanitarian project to the National Centre for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), aimed at improving educational facilities and services for children and young people with disabilities.

As part of the project, the Church funded the installation of improved restroom facilities, classroom furniture, educational equipment, and specialized sensory learning resources to create a more accessible, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

The official handover, held on July 21, reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Church and the NCPD and their shared commitment to expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities and their families.

Through these three humanitarian initiatives, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to strengthen communities by promoting education, inclusion, and disaster preparedness.
