The Church of Jesus Christ Strengthens Partnerships in Guyana to Expand Opportunities for Service

Georgetown, Guyana — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a series of meetings with religious, community, government, diplomatic, and media leaders in Guyana to promote initiatives and identify opportunities that contribute to the well-being of Guyanese communities and strengthen collaborative efforts in areas of shared interest.

One of the highlights of the visit was a meeting with leaders of the Inter-Religious Organization of Guyana (IROG), which brought together representatives from the Muslim, Hindu, Rastafarian, Brahma Kumaris, and Science of Spirituality communities.

During the discussions, participants exchanged perspectives on the role of faith in society and explored initiatives aimed at fostering greater understanding among different religious traditions. As a result, participants also discussed a proposal to organize a national interfaith concert in Guyana, which received a positive response from those in attendance.

The agenda also included meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Guyana, as well as a meeting with Michael Gordon, Vice President of NCN Guyana, the country’s leading national broadcasting network. These engagements helped establish relationships that may support future initiatives of mutual interest.

In the humanitarian sphere, the delegation visited organizations carrying out important social work throughout the country, including the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre, which serves hundreds of children through rehabilitation, therapy, and prosthetic programs; The Salvation Army, which supports women in vulnerable circumstances; and the Rotary Club of New Amsterdam, which sponsors a variety of community projects. These visits provided an opportunity to better understand local needs and explore potential areas for future collaboration.

In addition to the external meetings, training sessions were conducted for local Church communication leaders to strengthen their skills and support the development of communication plans for the Church in Guyana.

Through initiatives like these, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to promote Christlike service and strengthen cooperative relationships that contribute to the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. These efforts reflect the Savior’s teaching: “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).
