The presence of the worldwide leader was part of the Church’s efforts to support the work of the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Center Inc. The activity brought together youth ages 12 to 17 from the Caguas Stake, who assisted with the preparation and distribution of approximately 100 meals on Saturday, May 16, 2026. They also supported the “Solidarity Grocery Store” program, a key initiative that provides essential goods to low-income families in the area.

The event included the participation of government and ecclesiastical leaders, reflecting the strong relationship between the Church and the Puerto Rican community. Local attendees included Edgardo Burgos, municipal legislator (representing the mayor and the Office of Faith-Based Affairs); Odalys Zayas, special assistant to the mayor and director of press and communications; as well as Gilnealy Delgado García, also representing the mayor; in addition to Mariny Vásquez, director of the center.
In her words of appreciation, Mariny Vásquez noted that “thanks to the support of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it was possible to prepare the center in a record time of 70 days.” She also emphasized that the financial contribution provided by the Church exceeded all expectations.
Through global initiatives with local impact such as this, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reaffirms its mission to follow the example of Jesus Christ by promoting selfless service and collaborating with local organizations to relieve suffering and strengthen the social fabric in Puerto Rico.
