On December 7, 2024, as part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' "Light the World” Day of Service initiative, during which over 70,000 volunteers performed community services.
The initiative, supported by Church volunteers and other organizations, included blood donation drives, reforestation, beautification of schools and senior homes, cleaning of parks and public areas, restoration of sports facilities, dengue prevention campaigns, and other community service-oriented activities.
In the Dominican Republic, the initiative received support from various organizations that share the desire to help, including the Ministry of Public Health, the Dominican Red Cross, the Fire Department, municipal councils, neighborhood associations, and Catholic communities.
This year, countries like Jamaica organized cleaning services for mustard seed communities; in Guyana, the Children’s Convalescent Home was restored; in Puerto Rico, a Christmas concert and a creative "Christmas Trunk" filled with lights and decorations were held in collaboration with the community; in Venezuela, hygiene kits and carols were shared at the Ruiz and Páez Hospitals in Ciudad Bolívar; and in Paramaribo, Suriname, wheelchairs were delivered to people with disabilities, among many other valuable services across the Caribbean.
The "Light the World" campaign aims to transform Christmas into a season of service and love for others. The initiative invites people to participate in service activities during the Christmas season. "Light the World aims to help people embrace the Christmas spirit and perform actions inspired by Jesus, such as feeding the hungry, comforting the lonely, visiting the sick, and showing kindness to all.
